Indeed, religion with contentment is a great gain.  For we brought nothing into the world, just as we shall not be able to take anything out of it.  1 Timothy 6:6-7

Dear Saint Robert Community,

Candy-Land was definitely a success!  Thank you to all who worked, coordinated, managed, chaired, and brought their children to the festival.  I know it is a very tiring weekend, but everything you did was greatly appreciated by both the parish and the school.  Thank you to our three main chairpeople, Kathleen Butler, Yvette Walker, and Allen Koenig.  I need to say thank you to Bob Hulsman, as well, who is an acting chairperson.  Thank you for heading this entire, huge, project.  I think our whole community was so very pleased with the incredible decorations and the fun atmosphere.  God Bless You.

In between all this festival fun, we have completed our first round of STAR assessments for the year.  You will be reviewing them, along with the May ones,  with your teachers at parent teacher conferences.  High Schools have been visiting with our 8th graders and our 8th graders have begun shadowing at schools to confirm their choices.  The middle of our first quarter is coming up next week, so if you haven’t checked our Student Information System, Cornerstone, be sure to take a look next week.  4th grade parents, you will be able to check next week, we will be sending you instructions to hopefully make your first visit to the system an easy one.

Something, I know all parents want to know is how our school is prepared for emergencies.  Saint Robert adheres to the protocol of San Mateo County, referred to as the BIG FIVE emergency program.  Each month we have different drills.  For example, this week we have an evacuation drill,  and an earthquake drill.  Next week, we have a lockdown drill.  The more we do these drills the safer we are.  Our evacuation plan for parental information is in the 2017-18 Parent/Student Handbook.

Thank you again for a very successful Candy-Land Festival!
God Bless You and Your Families,
Mrs. Wright

P.S.  Please see the information/invitation in SR News, concerning the Consecration of the Archdiocese of SF to the Immaculate Heart of Mary on October 7th, 2017.  All are invited!

SR NEWS

SR Athletics–Now that Volleyball is well underway, it is time to gear up for Basketball.  The SR Athletics program is in need of two Basketball Commissioners for our boy teams and two for our girl teams.  Being a commissioner is a great way to get involved in our sports program.  If you would be willing to consider helping, please contact Keith Spataro, Athletic Director, at  kjspataro@yahoo.com
Coming up in October is a social fundraiser for our athletics program.  Do you like to play Texas Hold-em?  Plan to come and enjoy the fun with your SR community.  Registration will be at 6:00pm in Hennessy Hall, Saturday, October 14th.

The Cake Booth Thanks You-I just wanted to take a moment to thank all the wonderful bakers who baked for the Cake Booth this year. Once again, I was taken back by the number of cakes we received and how much thought and creativity that went into each baked good. Every year after Festival I am reminded of how lucky I am to be a part of the St Roberts Community. Thank you so much! Dina

Garden Club– Calling all 3rd through 8th graders who love to garden, or who just want to have fun learning about gardens. Thank you to Mrs. Dasho and Mrs. Montross, who have agreed to head up and help with this very unique after school club.  An amazing number of activities have been planned, so hurry to sign up.  The number of gardeners we can accomodate is limited.   Please see the sign up flyer under “attachments” above.  Happy Gardening!

Notification for Asbestos–Every year we are required to let you know that the Archdiocese of San Francisco and its schools, including Saint Robert, have participated in a program to identify and control any asbestos-containing materials in any of the buildings.  Please see attachments and read the notification about this information.   Thank you!

Consecration of the Archdiocese–You are invited!  On October 7, 2017, Archbishop Cordileone will consecrate the Archdiocese of San Francisco to the Immaculate Heart of Mary.  All events will take place at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption, 1111 Gough St., San Francisco.  9:00am Rosary, 10:00 Mass, 11:30 Eucharistic Processions, Benediction, Consecration.    Why?  2017 is the 100th Anniversary of the appearance of Mary to the shepherd children in Fatima, Portugal.  Consecration to her Immaculate Heart was a request of Mary at that time.   Many of our students have submitted Art/Poetry/Essays to the Archdiocese in preparation of the Consecration celebration.  Please see the SF Archdiocesan website for further information.

Women’s Guild Schoola Donations: Last year we began work with Schoola.com to collect clothing and earn some money for the Women’s Guild at the same time. We all have donated clothes to the Good Will, but what if you can donate clothes and have Saint Robert Women’s Guild receive some of the profits to help pay for some of the school’s events.   Schoola.com is just that website and it is extremely simple. First, you go to their site (schoola.com) and request a bag. Next, you fill the bag with outgrown clothes (gently used) and drop it in the mail for free. Finally, when the clothes that you donated are purchased from others in the San Bruno community or around the country at dramatically discounted prices, Our Kids Win! 40% of proceeds come back to us. On their site, you can also print your own label and use your own packing material.  For more information Julie Cress (julie.s.cress@gmail.com). We hope that you request that bag today. We have already had over 53 bags sent in and $565 raised money for the school.
